KARACHI, March 14: Skin Bank is expected to be set up in Burns Centre of Civil Hospital Karachi as proposed by the officials of the centre to Sindh Health Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed.

The suggestion came on Wednesday when minister visited the burns centre to inquire health of seven severely burn female patients, who came from Pano Aqil after suffering burn injuries in gas cylinder explosion.

The minister asked the officials concerned to send the Skin Bank proposal so that summary could be forwarded in this regard. The bank would preserve human skin for provision of skins in case of emergency to burn patients and replace patches of skin affected by fire.

Inquiring health of the burn patients, the minister ordered officials to spare no effort for their treatment. Twelve persons, including four children and eight women, were wounded in Pano Aqil when a gas cylinder exploded on Sunday noon. They were taken to Combined Military Hospital, Pano Aqil for treatment and later referred to the Civil Hospital Karachi.

One of female victims died on her way to the hospital while seven women were admitted to the Civil Hospital Karachi and four children to the National Institute of Child Health.

Dabirur Rehman of Burns Centre said free of cost treatment was being provided to all the seven patients. He said Zakia Bibi with 39 per cent burns, Kausar 21 per cent and Bubli with 47 per cent burns were admitted in general ward while four women Azra with 70 per cent burns, Sumaira with 76 per cent burns, Anwer Bibi and Hameeda Bibi both 70 per cent burns were admitted in Intensive Care Unit.

Later, Sardar Ahmed inspected pharmacy of the centre besides taking round of the wards to talk with patients.—PPI
