HYDERABAD, March 8: The International Women’s Day was observed throughout Sindh on Thursday to highlight the plight of women in Pakistan.

Speakers at different programmes demanded protection to women which constitute more than 50 per cent of the population.

In Hyderabad, the activists of the women wing of the PML-F staged a march from the district council building to the local press club. Saira Naseer said that the government was doing everything possible to protect their rights.

Marvi Samaji Taraqiati Tanzeem held a seminar at village Moula Dino Mirbahar, Tandojam, to mark the day. Speaking on the occasion, the general secretary of the organisation, Nida Kanwal Mallah said that the country cannot progress without an active participation of women in all fields.

The women wing of Pakistan Workers Federation interior Sindh region staged a march from labour hall Gari Khata to the local press club.

Speaking on the occasion, Kiran Rizvi said that women workers should be exempted from night shift and the women protection bill should be implemented in letter and spirit.

Tando Allahyar: Pakistan Human Rights Development Organisation, led by Mehmood Akbar Arain and M.P. Channa, took out a rally from Shah Latif gate to Tando Allahyar press club. A large number of women wing workers also participated in the rally.

Mirpurkhas: Zila Nazim Mirpurkhas, Dr Sughra Junejo said that at present, women were working side by side with men in different fields, including politics and were also making efforts for strengthening the democracy.

Later, zila nazim distributed best performance shield among 10 females in different fields and gave away certificates among women who received education from the literacy centres.

Thatta: Speakers at a meeting organized at the coastal town Var on Thursday criticised the government for its failure in protecting women and making effective legislation on the subject.

The PPP MPA Humera Alwani told audience that in Jan only, 38 women and men became victim of karo-kari in Sindh, an increase of 25 per cent than last year.

Khairpur: A ceremony to distribute cheques among female Citizen Community Boards (CCBs) schemes was held at Sachal Auditorium to mark the International Women's Day.
