PESHAWAR, March 1: The NWFP government has set up an endowment fund with a seed money of Rs100 million for the welfare of sportsmen and sportswomen. A total of Rs10 million has already been released, according to provincial Minister for Sports and Culture Hussain Ahmad Kanju.

He was presiding over the meeting of the endowment fund’s administrative committee here on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Sports Secretary Abdul Jalil Khan and Director-General, Sports, Maazullah Khan, besides officials concerned of the finance and P&D departments.

The meeting discussed the formation of rules of business for just and equitable distribution of funds. The meeting was informed that the fund would be used to provide scholarships to children of the sportsmen/women and financial assistance would also be provided to those who had died or been disabled during sporting events.

It was decided that the Sports Directorate’s scrutiny committee would look into the applications and submit to executive committee for approval.—PPI
