KARACHI, Feb 28: Former national champion Allana earned the right to represent Pakistan in the 14th Asia and Middle East (BFAME) bridge championship by defeating reigning national champion Candyland in the final of the national trials on Tuesday.

The BFAME championship will be held in the city in May. The winners will also take part in the Bermuda Bowl World bridge championship in Shanghai, China in November.

Allana having Jan-e-Alam Fazli, Abdul Rehman Allana, Tahir Masud, Sarfaraz Ahmed Khan, Rashid Jafer and Javed Miran in their fold enjoyed a convenient lead of 87 Imps after conclusion of second segment out of four.

Allana started with a carry over plus score of 12 Imps, as they had defeated the Candyland in the initial qualifying round by 24 Imps.

This award might have given some pressure to Candyland, as they both misplayed or misjudged the contracts, conceding 37 imps to Allana.

Stalwart Jan-e-Alam and Rehman Allana worked out various swings in the second segment to add another 38 Imps to take the lead to 87 Imps.—APP
