KARACHI: Sacking of employees slammed

Published February 28, 2007

KARACHI, Feb 27: The National Labour Federation (NLF) has strongly criticised retrenchment of over 1,800 employees of the Zarai Taraqiati Bank (ZTB) and termed it a wrong policy of the government.

The president of the NLF Karachi chapter, Rafiq Ahmad, said that the government on one hand was making claims of socioeconomic development in the country while on other committing economic murder of poor employees.

The NLF leader said that the employees of different organisations were being sacked in the name of privatisation and downsizing, which would further multiply unemployment in the country.

He said that the increase in poverty was the main cause of rising crime rate and suicide incidents and demanded of the government to restore all the sacked employees.—A Reporter
