SANGHAR, Feb 26: The Shahpur Chakar police obtained five-day remand of four accused in the case of killing of two girls from the court of civil judge and judicial magistrate, Shahdadpur, on Monday.

Khamiso, Imam Dad, Ghulam Qadir and Wahid Bux had allegedly killed their nieces Farida, 18, and Hamida 22, in Allah Bux Brohi village near Shahpur Chakar on February 22 on the pretext of karo-kari.

It has been learnt that both the girls were caught at early dawn when they were coming back home from a nearby banana orchard. Both were accused by the killers of having gone to the orchard to meet their lovers.

They were brutally tortured to obtain confessional statement. When both the girls did not withstand the beating, they took names of two boys to whom, they said, they had gone to meet. Then the uncles, with the help of others, carried out the execution.

Both the girls were brought one by one to the place of execution and their necks were hit by a sharp hatchet. However, the heads were not severed and remained attached to the body.

Farida’s father had died a few years ago whereas Hamida's father is in a Middle East country.

It is pertinent to mention here that womenfolk in the villages go to nearby fields and orchards at early dawn for the call of nature due to lack of latrines in the houses.

Sheher Bano, the mother of Farida, is complainant in the case. She is said to be under immense pressure by the elders of the Brohi community to retreat from her statement or compromise with the accused.

The two boys allegedly involved in the affair have gone into hiding to save their lives.
