HYDERABAD, Feb 25: Tandojam town and hostels of the Sindh Agriculture University remained tense on Sunday following a mob’s attack on the university on Saturday in which a number of vehicles were torched and property worth tens of millions of rupees was destroyed.

The incidents of arson had taken place following the death of a university student, Majid Rajput, who had received serious injuries at the hands of a group of students a few days ago.

A heavy contingent of police and Rangers has been deployed at the campus and patrolling in the town has been intensified.

According to reports, some miscreants resorted to aerial firing in Mir Colony and other localities of Tandojam to force the shopkeepers to pull down the shutters.

Police are reported to have registered an FIR against hundreds of unidentified people for destroying university property. The case was registered on behalf of the state.

Meanwhile, the university authorities have postponed regular and supplementary examinations for one week. A statement issued by the university authorities said that regular papers of IT and supplementary papers in the faculties of crop production, crop protection, social sciences, agricultural engineering, animal husbandry and veterinary sciences, which were schedule for Monday (today), would now be held on March 5.

PPP-SB: The activists of Pakistan People’s Party (Shaheed Bhutto) and its youth and students wings staged a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Sunday against the murder of Mr Rajput.

Speaking on the occasion, Raja Rasheed Samoon, Imran Shah, Shahab Shaikh and others demanded arrest of the murderers.

STPSF: Sindh Taraqqi-Pasand Students’ Federation has condemned the attack on the Sindh agriculture university and the harassment of Sindhi speaking students.

The STPSF activists staged a sit-in in Jamshoro to protest against what they called the murderous attack on Sindhi students.

Speaking on the occasion, Rustam Ali Lashari and Mohammad Ali Gadhi warned that if the harassment of the students was not stopped, they would retaliate and stage protest demonstrations throughout Sindh.
