Gujranwala ZC disallows kite flying

GUJRANWALA, Feb 19: The district council on Monday rejected a proposal seeking permission to fly kites and resumption of related business during Basant.

Officials said the mover, union council nazim Waqar Hussain, first approached the DCO who forwarded the request it to the city district nazim.

The nazim put up the case in the house for discussion. During the debate, a majority of the members apposed the idea and recommended that the ban on kite flying, manufacturing and sale in Gujranwala district should remain in place.

The mover got support from just one UC nazim.

The house was critical of the performance of city fire brigade. The members spoke over the issue in wake of a major fire that gutted a washing machines factory on Sunday. District nazim Fayyaz Chattha told the house that sufficient funds had been allocated for new fire fighting vehicles.
