KARACHI, Feb 19: People in Qasba Colony irked by around 36 hours long power failure in their locality took to the streets on Sunday night.

Residents of the area also lit bonfires on the Qasba road. A resident, Najmi told this scribe that the power supply got suspended early on Saturday morning and restored at 11pm on Sunday. The infuriated crowd dispersed only after the restoration of power supply. He said that due to the prolonged power suspension the area people also faced shortage of water. It was reported that the consumers in Surjani Town had also staged a protest the previous night.

The KESC’s concerned staff, when contacted, told that the problem had aggravated due to a delay in maintenance work on the Orangi and Valika supply line, adding that the faults were, however, rectified and now the supply was normal in the area.A resident of North Nazimabad Block A, Sohail, said that the electricity in his area remained suspended from 11am to 12.30am.

Reports of intermittent power suspensions were also received from other sectors of North Nazimabad, Orangi and Jamshed towns.According to a KESC announcement, power supply may be interrupted from 9am to 6pm to the areas of Defence Phase VI, Khayaban-i-Hafiz, Khayaban-i-Shahbaz, Saleem Jadoon, PMT, Naheed Gabol PMT, Union Bank PMT and Dr Nasim Akhtar PMT, Gulistan-i-Johar Block 3, KDA Hill View, Alladin Park, Rashid Minhas Road Block 13 C, Achan Shah, Double PMT, A-one Arcade PMT, and LG Showroom PMT, North Nazimabad Block A, B, H, I, G, J, P and T, Marston Quarters, Nafeesabad, Midicity, Azam Basti, Mahmoodabad, Jacob Lines, Jutland Lines, Garden East and West areas, Landhi Center, Hilal Corporation Sub Station, Guest Can Sub Station and Zafar Town, Deh Landhi, Qauidabad, Cattle Colony, Park City, Future Colony, Pipri, Metro Line Hospital, Al-Ejaz Bakery PMT, Sattar Enterprises PMT, Gulshan-i-Jami, Soorti Society, Humair Town, sheet 23 and 24, Nishtarabad, Ashabi Town, Ali Town, Jannatul Barakat and adjoining areas and Port Qasim areas.
