HYDERABAD, Feb 18: The Sindhi translation of "Penguin Book of Women Poets" by Dr Fahmida Hussain, published by the Sindhi Adabi Board, was launched on Saturday.

Noted intellectual Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo presided over the function and eminent short story and playwright Noorul Huda Shah was chief guest at the book launching ceremony.

A large number of writers, intellectuals, poets, teachers and students of Sindhi literature attended the event, which was organized by the board and the editorial staff of its women’s magazine at the lawns of the board in Jamshoro.

Mr Joyo, Ms Shah, Dr Qamar Wahid, Professor Amar Sindhu, Taj Joyo, Naseer Mirza, Dr Sahar Imdad, Aijaz Mangi, Gulbadan Javed Mirza, Najma Panhwar, Samina Memon and others expressed their views on the book.

They lauded Dr Fahmida for translating the book and said that in every society, women played key role in promotion of culture and traditions through their writings.

They said that education was the key to promotion of women's rights and their participation in development of every sector of society.

They said that in modern days, opportunities had increased for women's education and a healthy environment for women was available in the country but there was need of more efforts in this regard.

Dr Hussain appreciated cooperation offered by the women writers for organising such events and acknowledged efforts of different scholars for encouraging women writers through the board. She expressed the hope that the board would continue publication of books by women writers in different areas.
