Rangers-BSF talks begin

WAGAH, Feb 14: A high-level delegation of the Pakistan Rangers and officials of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday began talks over militancy, drug trafficking and sporadic gun battles along their border and the Line of Control in Kashmir.

The director-general of the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), Maj-Gen Javid Zia, arrived in Indian Punjab for the four-day talks which analysts see as another step towards normalised ties.

“The talks will cover problems faced by our two forces during joint patrolling of the international border and along the Line of Control in disputed Kashmir,” Zia said.

“All issues including the indiscriminate firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) will be discussed,” he said.

“Smuggling of narcotics neither benefits Pakistan nor India and both of us are looking at the issue seriously,” he said.
