Pakistan spikers playing abroad

LAHORE, Feb 14: Four of Pakistan’s leading players, including two former captains, are currently featuring in different volleyball leagues abroad, earning good money.

A Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) spokesman told Dawn that Mohammad Irfan Nawaz and Mohammad Ehsanullah Tipu, who had led Pakistan, are playing in Iran and Oman respectively on lucrative contracts.

Ehsanullah is with Al-Salam Club on an eight-month contract, drawing a monthly salary of $1500 while Irfan, whose six-month contract is worth US$10,000, is representing Iran’s Golgohar Sirjan Club.

Ehsanullah’s stint with the Oman club began last month and he is contracted till August this year while Irfan's contract would expire in March.

Two other players also busy playing abroad are Naseer Ahmed and Kashif Mansoor.

Naseer is associated with Ajman Club in Dubai on a $25,000 nine-month contract that runs till May this year whereas Kashif is with Iran's Seerjan Club for three months during which he will earn $6000.
