GUJRANWALA, Feb 13: The scheduled visit of President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Thursday (tomorrow) here in the city has been cancelled owing to bad weather, it is learnt.

Earlier, the district administration and traffic police on Tuesday impounded scores of public transport vehicles, including wagons plying on local routes, ahead of Gen Musharraf’s visit to Jinnah Stadium and Punjab University campus.

Reports said traffic police, led by a DSP and motor vehicle examiner (MVE), set up pickets on almost all important roads, including Rawalpindi by-pass intersection, and seized vehicles to carry the ruling PML activists to a public meeting.

The vehicles had been parked at compounds of different police stations and police lines.

On the other hand, passengers had to pay extra fare to auto-rickshaws and motorcycle-rickshaws to reach their destinations.

Heavy police force had surrounded the local general bus stand where vehicles and passengers were being searched.

Almost all arrangements for the public meeting had been finalised while a big stage had been erected at the Jinnah stadium.

TEACHERS: Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran Masood has said that the provincial government has issued a notification regarding teaching allowance and sent it to the finance department.

He was talking to a delegation of Punjab Teachers Association at Education Board Complex here on Tuesday.

The delegation, led by association president Qazi Azmatullah and headmasters association president Ghulam Mustafa Judga, met the provincial minister and put forward their demand.
