Manmohan backs Musharraf on Kashmir

Published February 5, 2007

NEW DELHI, Feb 4: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has backed President Gen Pervez Musharraf's statement that those who believed the gun was the only way to solve the Kashmir issue cannot be taken on board in resolving it, the daily Indian Express reported on Sunday.

"They are saying the right thing. Let us hope," Singh told journalists at a book launching ceremony on Saturday.

Dr Singh said he would undertake a Pakistan visit when he was sure that the outcome would be substantive. "I have received an invitation which I have accepted. I am looking forward to the visit. But when I visit I should do some substantive business," he said.

When asked whether his visit would take place by this summer, Dr Singh was non-committal. "Let us see," he said.
