Sialkot gain clear edge

RAWALPINDI, Feb 19: Sialkot gained a clear edge in their Quaid Trophy Grade-I match against Islamabad Tuesday at the KRL Ground.

After earning a 54-run first innings lead, the visitors had reduced the home side to 114 for five by the close of second day’s play.

Resuming at the overnight score of 71 for two, Sialkot collected 260 replying to Islamabad’s 206. Hafiz Majid and Afan Rauf scored fine half centuries to put the hosts on to the back foot.

Hafiz cracked four boundaries in his knock of 51 while down the order Afan also struck as many hits to the ropes for his personal 56.

Pacer Saad Janjua and Stephen John snapped up three wickets apiece.

When Islamabad started their second innings, they were jolted again by the man who had wrecked their first innings - Tahir Mughal. The paceman removed opener Farrukh Hayat for six and trapped one down Bilal Asad leg before for 33. Aamir Wasim also claimed two wickets to leave Islamabad in a difficult position.
