KARACHI, Feb 3: The houses of prominent architects, which they designed for their own living, were highlighted at a seminar held at a local hotel on Saturday.

Architect and researcher Mukhtar Husain conducted proceedings of the programme, which was entirely based on his recently published book themed on the houses designed by architects for themselves. Department of Architecture and Planning of the NED University of Science and Technology organised the event.

Mr Husain explained the process of research and documentation that was involved in obtaining the appropriate information. His book draws examples from all the four provinces; a very rich canvas of design inputs emerges out.

He informed the audience that the choice of houses varied from simple and casual designs to complex and attuned to climate. He started his presentation with renowned architect late Mehdi Ali Mirza and Mohammad Abdul Ahed, touched prominent figures Nayyar Ali Dada and Arif Hasan and concluded on the work of those representing the current times. The presentation also touched the finer aspects of design concepts applied by those creative professionals by heart to their abodes.

Architects, engineers and students attended the seminar.

Earlier, the chairman of NED university architecture and planning department, Dr Noman Ahmed, welcomed the guests and the speaker. NED University Vice-Chancellor Engineer Abdul Kalam was the guest of honour.
