KOHAT, Jan 28: Funeral prayers for the slain chief of Peshawar police, Malik Saad, were offered at the Hockey Ground here on Sunday.

However, the burial was postponed till the arrival of Mr Saad’s wife and son from the United States.

Family sources said the deceased would be laid to rest on Monday.

The body had been brought here on Sunday.

Thousands of people attended the funeral prayers and all markets in Kohat remained closed to mourn the death.

Mr Saad, an engineer, had served in the communications and works department for some time before passing the civil service examination and being selected for the police group.

He was the brother of late Karachi customs collector Malik Saleem Khan, former federal Planning Commission additional secretary Malik Saeed Khan and former Kohat district nazim Malik Asad Khan, and cousin of Frontier Constabulary Commandant Malik Naveed.

He had been appointed the deputy inspector-general of police, Peshawar, a month back.
