KARACHI, Jan 26: PPP leader and former senator Masroor Ahsan has condemned the government for levying property tax on houses measuring 120 square yards and demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision.

In a statement issued on Friday, the PPP leader said Benazir Bhutto during her tenure as prime minister had abolished the property tax on 60, 80 and 120sq-yd houses to provide relief to the masses. He said it was impossible for a common man to pay the tax when price of every commodity was on the rise. Saying that such decisions are being taken at the behest of the World Bank and IMF, he asked the government to withdraw this decision forthwith and abolish all unnecessary taxes.
