HYDERABAD, Jan 21: Mohammad Aslam Khoso, brother of Saleem Khoso who was killed in Nawabshah after he had married a woman against the wishes of her parents,appealed to superior judiciary on Sunday to order the arrest of the killers and save his widow’s life.

Mr. Aslam told a news conference at the press club that late Saleem had married Ms. Hameeda on November 13, 2006 much to the annoyance of her parents in the Mureed Khoso village of Tando Adam taluka. His brother was killed a couple of weeks ago when police conducted a raid to recover Hameeda, he said.

He cited a statement in a newspaper attributed to Hameeda which said that she would commit suicide if the accused arrested were not released and expressed fear she might be killed on the same pretext.

He appealed to superior judiciary and inspector general of police to order the arrest of his brother’s murderers and protect the life of his widow.

RALLY: The Sindh People’s Youth Organisation (Shaheed Bhutto) on Sunday brought out a procession in protest against rampant unemployment, lawlessness and price hike.

The procession started from the Agriculture Complex and marched to the local press club where the participants staged a protest demonstration outside the press club.

Leaders Younus Bhan, Barkat Lashari, Ghulam Rasool Umrani and Saleem Rajput strongly criticised the rulers who they said had taken no concrete steps to mitigate people’s sufferings and announced the organisation would hold a big protest demonstration in Karachi on February 26.

VC SU: The University of Sindh Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mazharul Haq Siddiqui on Sunday left for the United Kingdom to sort out the issue of Sindh university teachers pursuing PhD studies in different universities there.

On the invitation of International Liaison University, Sussex UK, he would visit the university and participate in different academic programmes.

An SU spokesman said that the VC would also visit Nottingham and Durham universities and meet Sindh university's teachers pursuing PhD studies there.

Registrar Mohammad Saleh Rajar would look after the university’s affairs in his absence.

LIQUOR SEIZED: A special divisional squad of excise police seized around 2,500 litres of illicit liquor and arrested three people allegedly involved in the illegal business in a raid on Khamiso Leghari village on Sunday.

According to Excise and Taxation Director Kanwar Amir Jamil, the squad led by Chaudhry Ghulam Ahmed Arain raided the village in the jurisdiction of Tando Mohammad Khan police station and seized 2,500 litres of poisonous liquor.

Excise police also arrested Qasim, Ismail and Deedar on charges of preparing and selling the bootlegged liquor and filed a case under section 3/4 of Abkari Act against them.
