Published January 20, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Jan 19: President Gen Pervez Musharraf held telephonic conversation with Iranian President Ahmadinejad on Friday. The two leaders discussed progress on gas pipeline to India via Pakistan, Iran’s nuclear programme and issues regarding Afghanistan and Iraq.

Both leaders agreed that the gas project was quite conducive to the three parties concerned and hoped that tariff would also be decided amicably.

It was decided that petroleum secretary Waqar Ahmad would visit Tehran in the next month to hold talks about the issue.

President Musharraf supported Iran’s nuclear programme for peaceful purposes and wished the issue would be resolved through dialogue.—Online
