KARACHI, Jan 10: A Muttahida Qaumi Movement activist was killed and his companion injured when unknown persons opened fire at them in Shah Faisal Colony on Wednesday night. Following the incident, two Sunni Tehrik activists were injured in a similar attack the same night.

The incidents created tension in the area.

City police chief Tariq Jamil said the Muttahida Qaumi Movement activist and his companion were going somewhere on a motorcycle when they were attacked by unknown assailants, who were also riding a motorcycle. He said the activist, later identified as Ghufran, died whereas his companion, Junaid, and a passerby were wounded in the attack.

In what was believed to be a retaliatory attack, unknown persons opened fire at some activists of the Sunni Tehrik wounding two of them, police said. The victims could not be identified immediately.
