Babar saves Rawalpindi

LAHORE, Feb 18: Left-handed opener Babar Naeem contributed a useful 62 to help Rawalpindi score first innings total of 232 against Lahore Blues on opening day of Quaid Trophy Grade-I match at Gaddafi Stadium Monday.

Lahore Blues will begin their innings Tuesday.

Rawalpindi made a poor start wit two wickets going down for 34 after winning the toss. Babar and Naseer Ahmed (17) then added 52 in 82 minutes for the third wicket.

But after Naseer’s departure, the visitors collapsed to 151 for seven, including the vital scalp of Babar, who hit  eight boundaries and faced 157 balls.

However, all-rounder Yasir Arafat (44 not out) and Tasawwar Hussain (32) came together in a seventh-wicket stand worth 65 in 73 minutes.

Yasir’s 81-ball knock was studded with four boundaries.

Slow left-armer Mohammad Hussain conceded just 39 runs in 27 overs while picking up three wickets. Left-arm paceman  Sajid Ali also chipped in with three wickets for 57.
