KARACHI, Jan 7: A fine century by all-rounder Rizwan Ahmed enabled Hyderabad obtain a vital 43-run lead on the first innings over Lahore Ravi on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Silver League fixture at the Niaz Stadium on Sunday.

Rizwan made 102 off 206 balls as the hosts ended the day at 308 for five in reply to Lahore Ravi’s 265.

Wicket-keeper Hanif Malik also played a good hand by making 74 (eight fours) while putting on 167 for the third wicket with Rizwan, who stroked seven fours and two sixes in a stay of 264 minutes.

Shahid Qambrani also shone for Hyderabad. The former Pakistan Under-19 right-hander is batting on 59, which includes six fours.

Hyderabad suffered a setback at the start of play when overnight batsman Hanif-ur-Rehman retired hurt after being struck a painful blow on his ankle by paceman Wasim Khan. He eventually resumed at the fall of the fourth wicket.

It was a hard toil for the bowlers, especially the quick men, on the slow pitch. Slow left-armer Ali Azmat was the most successful with the wickets of Rizwan and Hanif-ur-Rehman.
