SUKKUR: Protests in Sukkur jail

Published January 8, 2007

SUKKUR, Jan 7: More than 25 prisoners climbed onto the rooftop of their barracks in Central Jail-I on Sunday evening to press for their demands. The prisoners, including an alleged bandit Sarwar alias Saroo Chandio, climbed up the rooftop of barracks and refused to come down. They were, however, persuaded to end their protest by deputy superintendent jail Shahid Chajro who assured them of solving their problems.

Mr. Chajro denied the protest was against jail authorities and said that the inmates were protesting against unnecessary delay in hearing of their cases.

He said that he would write to concerned courts about their complaint and added that the prisoners’ complaints about meeting with relatives and other facilities had already been solved.
