KARACHI, Jan 7: The encroachments at Liqauatabad Bazaar are irksome for shoppers, area residents as well as passers-by as they cause traffic snarl. Although the encroachments mainly by vendors were removed every year and claims are made about not allowing their re-emergence, these encroachments re-emerge more freely.

Fruit vendors have encroached upon the road from Dak-khana Chowk and cloth, shoe and beauty item merchants from Super Market area up to old Nairang Cinema on the up-track.

The same is true for the down-track road as encroachments begin from where Liaquatabad Flyover ends at Liaquatabad No 10. From Firdous Shopping Centre up to Super Market front, jewellers and Kiryana shop owners have encroached. The illegal parking by taxis and rickshaws besides bus-bay violations add to the traffic jams.

Though a handful these encroachers cause inconvenience to the general public, commuters, motorists and not the least area residents as a vehicle frequently takes more than 10 to 15 minutes to pass through this stretch of less than a kilometre.—APP
