MIRAMSHAH, Dec 22: A Khasadar personnel was killed and five others, three of them coach passengers, were injured when armed men opened fire on a government van on the Mirali-Miramshah road in North Waziristan agency on Friday.

It is the first attack on government officials after the Sept 5 peace deal in the agency between militants and the government.

Officials said the vehicle of assistant political agent Naeem Khan was going from Mirali to Miramshah when unidentified people driving in a non-custom paid car opened fire on it near the Esha checkpost.

As a result, Khasadar Aqal Noor died on the spot and his two colleagues Sadaat Khan and Rahimullah received bullet injuries.

Naeem Khan was not in the vehicle.

Residents said that a passenger coach coming from the opposite direction caught in the firing in which Shad Amir, Taj Mohammad and Niamatullah were injured.

The injured were taken to the agency headquarters hospital in Miramshah. Doctors said that all were out of danger.
