HYDERABAD, Dec 19: The executive council of Sindh University Teachers Association demanded on Tuesday that the university authorities withdraw show-cause notices issued to Prof Dr Syed Mehtab Ali Shah and a number of other faculty members and drop inquiry against them.Prof Dr Syed Inayatullah Shah presided over the meeting which observed that withdrawal of notices was necessary to create an atmosphere conducive for academic activities.

The council hailed the prime minister’s announcement about upgradation of university teachers and demanded that the university upgrade its teachers like the universities of Punjab and Karachi.

It demanded that the university expedite efforts to allocate land for the third phase of university employees housing society and urged the university to dispose of without delay pending conformation cases of teachers.

It expressed concern over absence of senate representatives for the last four years and demanded that elections for the vacant seats of senate should be held immediately.

The meeting called upon university authorities to solve the problems of the residents of Sindh university colony and demanded introduction of a merit based and uniform policy for the allocation of duties and assignments.

The council criticised the assignment of more than one additional charges to a faculty member, head of department, institute or centre in addition to his or her own teaching responsibilities.

It urged the university authorities to obtain permission from Sindh governor for the appointment of teachers on various vacant posts and resolved that the university should charge the teachers house rent according to the category of house allotted to them and not according to their post.

The university should also withdraw five per cent maintenance charges like Punjab and Karachi universities, the council demanded, adding that the existing rates of remuneration for semester and annual examinations should also be revised and enhanced.
