KARACHI, Dec 18: Poor sanitary conditions in Shah Beg UC-6 in Lyari Town present a perfect picture of the failure of municipal authorities. Heaps of garbage and filth, stagnant sewage are making the lives of the area residents difficult. They blame the municipal authorities for the mess and say that the staff concerned do not perform their duty regularly.

Moreover, they say that most of the garbage dumps have been vanished and in their places illegal constructions have emerged. In the absence of formal dumping sites, people have now started to throw away domestic waste on streets and roads.

The situation is even worse on Ahmed Shah Bukhari and Slaughter House roads where several government and private schools are located.

People claim that they had lodged several complaints with the authorities concerned in this regard, but to no avail. According to them, the authorities seem least bothered to solve the problems of their area.

The situation in Ali Mohammad Mohalla is also the same as the narrow streets in the locality are littered with plastic bags and scraps of waste papers besides domestic waste as there is no formal dumping site as well.

Residents blame negligence of sanitary workers for the situation. Shortage of sanitary workers and funds are cited as main reasons for this poor state of sanitation.
