LAHORE, Dec 13: The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in London in collaboration with British Council will hold MRCP Part-I and II examinations in May and November 2007 in Lahore.

Punjab Health Minister Chaudhry Iqbal told reporters on Wednesday that the facility would help doctors seeking higher education and national exchange would be saved as maximum doctors would be able to complete their postgraduate specialisation in the country.

The minister said that more examination centres would also be set up in the country. He said the MRCP was considered a “gold standard” qualification that groomed the career of many young postgraduates in Pakistan.

He said that international members and fellow constituted almost 20 per cent of the membership of the London RCP. The college provides educational support and products for higher medical standards relevant to the needs of other countries.

He said the government was paying attention to provide modern training facilities to young doctors.

Mr Iqbal said the government was concentrating on public health issues and the healthcare system needed to be refurbished.

Fatima Jinnah Medical College’s Muhammad Akbar Chaudhry and Royal College London Director Dr Neil Dewhurst also spoke.
