HYDERABAD, Nov 30: The city taluka council on Wednesday formed a committee to curb sale of meat on pushcarts and in lanes and streets of the taluka.

The three-member committee will submit its report to the council about the quality of meat.

At a meeting of the council, members expressed their views on the call notice given by Dr Ayaz Arain on the subject.

Ghulam Shabbir Chishti presided over the meeting.

Mr Arain said that City Nazim Javed Jabbar served a notice on the meat sellers to stop the illegal sale of meat on pushcarts and in lanes and streets and shift their business to meat market.

He said that to implement the decision, it was necessary to appoint a committee to ensure that animals were not slaughtered in different localities but at abattoirs.

The proposal was accepted by the council and the convenor appointed a three-member committee to implement the decision of the nazim and to oversee the performance of the department concerned.

In response to the queries of lady councillor Mubina Khanam, the council was informed that the council had installed 12,912 street lights on Hesco poles for which it was paying huge electricity charges to the tune of Rs449,429 per month.

The members were informed that the council was not authorised to impose any tax on Hesco’s electricity poles as it was a federal organisation.
