KARACHI: Heroin found in dry fruits

Published November 24, 2006

KARACHI, Nov 23: The drug enforcement cell of Pakistan Customs at the Jinnah International Airport seized heroin concealed in dry fruits destined for Australia.

A spokesman for the customs said that a parcel of dry fruits was booked at the office of DHL (JIAP) by Hidayatullah for Balmin, New South Wales. When the parcel was scanned at the DHA cargo office, it was found containing narcotic substance.

An examination of the parcel yielded polythene bags containing walnuts, pistachios, cardamom and spices. A few of the walnuts when broken had heroin powder wrapped in black polythene weighing 230 grams off-white heroin powder, the spokesman added.

Efforts were being made to arrest the suspect in the case, the spokesman said.
