Vacation ends but school still closed

MIANWALI, Nov 19: The Government Girls Primary School Dhok Pera in Namal valley is still closed after summer vacation is over several months ago.

A prominent social worker and Namal community development council secretary, Said Ali Shah, told this scribe that students had been waiting since long for the opening of their school.

He said the Namal valley was in much need of girls education, but the education department had always given this area a step-motherly treatment.

He further said that many girls’ schools in the valley were facing the problem of shortage of teachers, but the education department paid no heed to resolve the issue.

For over 100 students, he said, the Dhok Pera girls primary school had only two teachers and the school had never opened after the summer vacation as a result of their prolonged absence.

He said this attitude of the education department was entirely against the well-trumpeted Punjab government slogan of “Parha Likha Punjab”.

Mr Shah said that a delegation met on Sunday with District Nazim Obaidullah Khan Shadikhel and apprised him of the situation. He said the district nazim had directed the EDO (education) to take a prompt action with regard to the restoration of the school activities.

When contacted, EDO (education) Maqbool Shakir confirmed that none of the teachers had reported to the school after the summer vacation.

The EDO (education) said that he had asked the DDO education female to take disciplinary action against the two teachers and appoint new teachers immediately.
