BAHAWALPUR, Nov 17: The Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA), Bahawalpur division, has opposed the appointment of army generals as vice-chancellors of public sector universities.
The PPLA at its meeting held here the other day condemned the Punjab government’s move to declare more `model colleges’ in its bid to grant autonomous and private status to several colleges and frequent changes in the curriculum.
The meeting stressed the need to regularize the contractual services of lecturers besides refraining from changing the status of regular teachers to contract.
It also demanded one-step upgradation in pay scales to teachers of all universities and colleges without any discrimination as announced by the prime minister.
Through another resolution, the association also demanded that the entrance test should be banned in the future.
