KARACHI, Nov 17: The Pakistan Peoples Party’s support on the women’s protection bill does not mean support for General Pervez Musharraf as the party was committed to struggle for a just, liberal and egalitarian dispensation in the country.

This was stated by PPP Sindh Secretary General Nafees Siddiqui on Friday. He claimed that the PPP was the first national party which advocated and strived for equal rights of all without any discrimination of gender, caste, creed or religion.

Mr Siddiqui declared that the PPP would support all amendments in the bill that would ensure more freedom because it was part of its manifesto. He said that Hudood Ordinance was the brainchild of military dictator Ziaul Haq who had exploited religion.

He said the PPP remained committed to the Charter of Democracy and would continue struggling for a liberal, tolerant and democratic dispensation from the platform of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy.
