KARACHI, Nov 16: A bandit was killed and his accomplice injured in a shootout in PECHS on Thursday.

Kamran Javed had withdrawn 200 Canadian dollars from Master Exchange Company located on Sharea Faisal. He was intercepted on Shahrah-i-Quaideen flyover by a car bearing registration number (AFR-604), occupied by four suspects. As they were depriving Mr Javed of valuables, a rangers vehicle passed by.

The suspects opened fire on the rangers. The paramilitary troopers returned fire, but the suspects managed to flee in their vehicle, said the SHO of Ferozabad.

One of the four suspects, Imtiaz, could not board their car and tried to escape on foot. He was later arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, another shootout with the suspects took place near Jaffar Public School in PECHS (Block 6) during which one of the suspects, later identified as Ramzan, died. His accomplices, Abdullah and Asif, were arrested by the police. Abdullah also sustained injuries in the encounter.

Two women passengers, traveling in a passenger coach, also suffered bullet injuries. Mairaj suffered a minor bruise while Saba was shifted to Jinnah Hospital where she was admitted for treatment, police said.

SHO Aurenzeb said one Kalashnikov, three magazines, 200 bullets, three TT pistols and the snatched 200 Canadian dollars and cell phones were recovered from their possession. The suspects had earlier spent eight years in jail in a kidnapping for ransom case.

A spokesman for the Rangers, Captain Fazal, confirmed the incident.

VEHICLES STOLEN: At least 20 vehicles and 52 cellphones were taken away by bandits from different parts of the city on Thursday.
