KARACHI, Nov 14: A London-bound flight of Pakistan International Airline was delayed by over six hours due to some snags on Tuesday.

Sources told Dawn that the Civil Aviation Authority inspected the Airbus 310 and found an emergency chute of one of the doors missing, while the chute in another door was found unserviceable.

Chutes are used in emergencies to evacuate passengers. Under international aviation standards, each door and emergency exit of an aircraft is equipped with an emergency chute.

PIA officials said the London-bound PK773 was scheduled to depart at 11am, but it took off at about 5pm after the snags were removed.

They said the Civil Aviation Authority seemed to have gone into an overdrive situation as they exercised their authority beyond the rules.

The officials said there was minimum equipment list in every aircraft and this defect had been covered in the list.
