KARACHI, Nov 14: Sindh Local Government Minister Muhammad Hussain Khan on Tuesday stressed the need for a comprehensive survey of coastal belt and islands to compile an authentic data of acquired facilities in these areas.Addressing the board of directors of Fishermen Cooperative Society, he said that once data was acquired, the provision of basic amenities in order of priority could be initiated. He asked the FCS management to evolve a strategy for required amenities locality-wise.

Mr Hussain said that the provincial government was planning to establish at least one hydrant in each town of the city to provide potable water to every citizen.

He said that he would soon visit coastal areas, villages and islands to know about the problems faced by their inhabitants. He said that tender for provision of potable water to Baba Bhit Island had been issued and the work on pipeline under the sea would be started soon.

He ordered preparation of PC-I for repair of main road leading to a fish harbour and said that he would personally contact the authorities concerned for early repair of this road.

On various problems presented by FCS directors, the minister directed the representatives of education and health departments and water board for an early solution of the same. He also stressed the need for close liaison between officers and fishermen cooperative society.

Sindh Fisheries and Livestock Adviser and FCS Chairman Faqir Jadim Mangrio apprised him about the functioning of the society.

FCS Director Ahmed Zamir expressed hope that many problems of fishermen would be solved with the interest taken by the minister. FCS Vice-Chairman Haji Ali Muhammad also spoke on the occasion.—PPI
