KARACHI, Nov 9: A bandit was killed in what police claimed to be an encounter in Eidgah area on Thursday, while his two accomplices managed to escape. A pedestrian was also injured in the shoot out.

Police said that three bandits boarded a minibus of route (D-19) at Lawrence Road.

They took the passengers at gunpoint and started collecting cash and cellphones.

Two policemen patrolling on a motorcycle spotted the unusual situation in the minibus and intercepted the vehicle.

As the suspects attempted to make their run opening fire at the policemen, they also returned the fire killing one of the bandits. However, his two accomplices managed to escape.

The bandit aged around 25, could not be identified, police recovered cellphones and cash from his possession.

During the firing a pedestrian identified as Shafiullah, 20, was injured.

CELLPHONES: At least 23 vehicles and 68 cellphones were snatched or stolen from different parts of the city on Thursday.

Police sources said that four cars were snatched at gunpoint and 11 were reported stolen.

However, not a single motorcycle was reported snatched but 8 two-wheelers were reportedly stolen on Thursday.

Police sources said that 27 mobile phones were snatched at gunpoint and 35 were reported stolen while 6 cellphones were reported missing on Thursday.

ARRESTED: Police on Thursday arrested a drug dealer in Korangi. TPO Korangi said that the accused Kana was actively doing his drug business for over the last 20 years in the Korangi area.

The accused was running drugs, gambling dens and has also stakes in fisheries.
