Complete strike by lawyers in Punjab

Published November 5, 2006

AHORE, Nov 4: Lawyers in the city and elsewhere in the Punjab observed a complete strike against the recent bombing of Bajaur Agency in which more than 80 people were killed.

In Lahore, lawyer took out a rally and paraded on The Mall raising slogans against the government and some foreign states. Carrying banners and placards, they took out the procession from the Aiwan-i-Adal which terminated at Regal Chowk where the bar leaders addressed them.

Punjab Bar Council vice-chairman Chaudhry Azhar and Lahore Bar Association president Imran Masood said the air strike at Bajaur Agency spoke volumes of the American interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs.

But more than that, they said, the conduct of the government was degrading as it compromised on the national sovereignty by allowing foreign troops to bombard its citizens.
