LAHORE, Nov 2: Prominent businessman Seth Hafiz Ayaz Ahmad, a son of late tycoon Seth Abid, was among five people gunned down by a security guard who went on a shooting spree in the city’s Sattokatla area on Thursday.

Police said Rizwan, 30, the security guard of a private agency, had come to the Airlines Society, owned by Seth Abid, with his four colleagues and a supervisor for joining his new duty.

When Seth Hafiz Ayyaz Ahmed reached there with his son, Rizwan opened fire on Ayyaz and on two of his colleagues, said a police official.

The accused then started raising slogans of Allah-o-Akbar and chased another fleeing security guard and killed him.

The indiscriminate shooting left six people, including two teenaged girls, injured.

Seth Ayyaz was rushed to the Doctors’ Hospital and Naseer, Manzoor Hussain, Zahoor Ahmed and passers-by Shafee and his daughters Mah Noor,

9, and Siddiqa, 7, Zeeshan, Akram Baig and Israrul Haq were taken to the Jinnah Hospital.

Seth Ayyaz, Naseer, Manzoor, Zahoor and Zeeshan died in the hospitals.

The accused later hijacked a car and escaped.

Seth Ayyaz is survived by wife and a son.

The police said the motive of the killings was not clear. “Rizwan was apparently annoyed for being overworked because his employer did not give him leave. He might be a religious fanatic or a psychopath,” the official said.

On the directives of the Lahore police, the Arfiwala police have arrested Rizwan’s father Ismaeel, wife and brothers in a bid to make him surrender.

When contacted, Time Security chief Saeed confirmed that Rizwan was his emp-loyee but refused to speak further.
