SAHIWAL, Nov 1: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) have registered a case after a delay of 17 days against a food inspector and his three accomplices on the charges of wheat embezzlement.

The ACE recovered 1,779 of 2,584 bags (each of 100 kgs) of wheat embezzled by Inspector Rana Imtiaz Ahmad, watchman Arshad, contractor Matloob and his employee Mahboob.

According to ACE, they conducted a raid at the wheat purchase centre at Okanwala on Oct 13 and found 2,584 bags missing while 1,200 bags were found filled with earth. They took the record of the center into possession and started an inquiry. The accused, in the meanwhile, returned 1,779 bags of wheat worth around Rs1.779 million. There was still shortage of 805 bags of wheat worth Rs805,000, they added.

The probe for 1,200 earth filled bags is going on. No arrest has so far been reported.

It is learnt that Inspector Rana Imtiaz embezzled wheat worth Rs5.5 million from the Burewala centre in 1993. He was reinstated after recovery of the commodity on the recommendation of a minister. — Correspondent
