LAHORE, Oct 30: A middle-aged woman and an unidentified labourer died while six people, including a child, injured when roof of a single-storey house collapsed in Shahdara here on Monday.

The roof of Taj Din’s house, situated at Gulshan Hayat Park, collapsed when the ground was being dug to erect foundation walls of a house at an adjacent plot.

Soon after the collapse, the area residents rushed to the spot, started removing the wreckage and rescued the injured. Later, they were joined by the Rescue 1122.

Fatima, 55, died on the spot, while her son Aslam, daughter-in-law Kiran, four-year-old granddaughter Laiba, sister Surraya and nieces Samina and Amina were injured. A labourer, digging the basement, also received injuries.

The injured, two of them seriously, were rushed to the Mayo Hospital where the labourer died.

At least seven people, including two children, have died, while 20 have so far been injured in roof and wall collapse incidents, mostly occurring in low-income areas of the city, during the month.
