HYDERABAD, Oct 13: The chief minister’s inspection team probing into delay in draining out rainwater in Hyderabad will hold its first meeting with the district nazim on Monday.

The probe was ordered by Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim after failure of the district government to drain out rainwater from Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas.

The inspection team headed by the director-general (technical) Nawaz Memon with two members including OSD Dr Waliullah Dal and deputy director of chief minister’s inspection team Nazeer Mahar was formed by the chief minister after he visited the areas affected by heay rains on September 7 and 8.

He visited Latifabad and Qasimabad talukas on Sept 10, and expressed dissatisfaction over the civic bodies for their failure in draining out of water.

Troops were called in to evacuate people through boat navigation in areas of Latifabad and parts of Qasimabad.

The chief minister had also made his feelings known regarding Water and Sanitation Agency and Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA) to every one in presence of Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz, who had arrived in Hyderabad to take stock of the situation on September 17.

The committee’s meeting with the district nazim would be held against the backdrop of nazim?s insistence with Sindh chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim that he must be taken on board as to the proceedings of the inspection team’s inquiry.

After the meeting the team members would finalise their visit programme of the district.

An official source claimed that the emphasis of the inquiry is to ensure that no such situation developed in future in the city in case of heavy rains.

The source said that budgetary allocations regarding WASA and HDA would also be looked into whereas various development projects, being executed in the district, would be discussed.
