THATTA, Oct 7: People’s Party Parliamentarians MPA Sassui Palijo has said that the sale of two islands Bundar and Buddo situated off the Thatta coast to a foreign company is a conspiracy of an ethnic group to implement its dream of Jinnahpur.

Speaking at a press conference at the press club here on Saturday, she said that Sindhis were wary of the conspiracy because the federal government sold out 12,000 acre land of the islands without taking the Sindh government into confidence and tackling the issue through the provincial assembly.

She said that villages and graveyards of fishermen, shrines of Yousuf Shah and Shah Hassan and many historical sites were situated on the islands.

She said that the islands fall within the jurisdiction of Kharochhan, Keti Bunder and Mirpur Sakro talukas of the Thatta district.

She said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement would accommodate and settle Biharis, Bengalis and other pro-MQM outsiders to convert the indigenous people into a minority and take over the natural resources of coastal belt and to accomplish the old dream of Jinnahpur.

She appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of the issue.

Ms Palijo said that army’s intervention in the name of monitoring in various departments of the education department would have negative impact on the whole system.

She said that it would create problems among rural primary students besides rise in corruption and weakening of the administrative grip.

On the issue of registration of voters, she said that two months extension for the completion of registration process was not enough. She said that a majority of people living in low-lying areas had shifted temporarily to hilly sites due to recent torrential rains and their return would take some time.

She said that extension in the date of registration of voters was essential so that no body should be deprived of his or her right of franchise.

She demanded that the entire defunct Hyderabad division be declared calamity-hit area and revenue taxes should be exempted to the farming community in Thatta district keeping in view the huge financial losses sustained by them due to recent torrential rains.
