KARACHI, Oct 6: A large number of Lyariites, led by Town Nazim Malik Mohammad Fayyaz held a protest demonstration after Friday prayers against the acute water shortage and staged a sit-in at Mauripur Road leaving the road blocked for traffic.

They were carrying banners and placards and chanted slogans against the Karachi Water Sewerage Board (KWSB), city government and other authorities concerned.

Speaking on the occasion, the town nazim alleged that the KWSB authorities had failed to provide potable water to Lyariites and termed it an act of cruelty and injustice to the area people.

He charged that instead of providing water to the residents of Lyari, the KWSB officials were providing water to those, who greased their palms.

Nazims of different union councils on the occasion while criticising the authorities concerned said that those claiming changing map of Karachi had completely failed to even provide water and other basic amenities to the people of Lyari.
