KARACHI, Sept 30: The University of Karachi syndicate on Saturday approved the grant of grade 21 to seven senior professors of the varsity, said sources on the campus.

The meeting of the syndicate was held with Vice-Chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim in the chair. Appointments of some examination and administrative officials were also finalised by the syndicate.The professors whose names have been approved for promotions would now be sent to the Sindh governor, who is also the chancellor of the university, for a final say and notification, said a source.

A couple of members, however, pointed out to the chair that despite the fact that the syndicate had on occasions passed resolutions for award of certain extra benefits to the grade 21 professors, the university administration and finance officers had been failing to implement those. The members said that the teachers of KU should also be facilitated as the grade 21 teachers at other varsities were being benefited, added the source.

The university had already two professors of grade 21. The new names recommended for award of grade 21 are Dr Iftikhar Imam Naqvi, the dean of science faculty, Dr Mohammad Shamsuddin, the dean of Arts faculty, Dr M Abuzar Wajdi of Public Administration department, Dr Aqil Burney of the Computer Science department, Dr Talat Wizarat of International Relations department, Dr Abdush Nomani of Arabic department and Dr Mansoor Ahmed of Pharmacy faculty.

Meanwhile, the faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Karachi, organised the launching of 'Irfanul Quran'- the translation of Holy Quran by Dr Mohammad Tahirul Qadri.

Speaking on the occasion, the KU vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, said that the Holy Quran was a complete code of life.

According to a statement here Saturday, he said those who would mould their lives in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Quran would emerge as successful in this life and in the life hereafter.

Dr Pirzada said that he was very much impressed with the publication- Irfanul Quran. He also lauded the services of Dr Mohammad Tahirul Qadri in this regard. The chancellor of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Z.A. Nizami, praised the role of Dr Qadri towards the promotion of Quranic teachings.

KU Islamic Studies dean Jalaluddin Noori said that Irfanul Quran was a significant addition in the translations of the Holy Quran. Dr Tanzeemul Firdous, Dr Mohsin Naqvi, Dr Abdul Rashid, Sarwar Nasim, Allama Ghulam Dastagir Afghani and Dr Khwaja Mohammad Ashraf in their speeches lauded the contribution of Dr Mohammad Tahirul Qadri.—APP
