THATTA, Sept 28: In view of a report compiled by a World Bank panel on disasters and damage caused by the Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD) in tail-end districts of Thatta and Badin, the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and donor agencies should desist funding controversial mega projects like the Kalabagh dam, greater Thal Canal, RBOD and respect the wishes of the people of smaller provinces.

The demand was raised by the People’s Party Parliamentarians MPA from Thatta district, Ms Sassui Palijo, while speaking at a street corner meeting in Mirpur Sakro on Thursday.

She said that in its report, the World Bank panel had admitted that the LBOD, a mega project, constructed under the World Bank-funded National Drainage Programme had miserably failed and become counter productive, particularly for the people of Thatta and Badin districts.

She said a large number of people lost their lives and displaced and marooned due to this project.
