KARACHI: Water shortage in Lyari

KARACHI, Sept 27: An acute water shortage problem has been persisting in Shah Beg Lane Union Council area of Lyari Town for quite some time, buit it has worsened for the past few days.

The gravity of the situation could be witnessed by the long queues of people at the public posts waiting for their turn day and night.

The worst affected areas are Ali Mohammad Mohalla, Slaughter house area, Shah Beg Lane (East and West).

Though these localities are being supplied water through tankers by the rangers for quite some time as most of these areas are yet to be connected with the main distribution system and the people had to stand in queue for hours to get bucketfuls of water.

Local bodies representatives of the locality has been making untiring efforts to solve the water shortage problem, but there are no positive results yet.

Deploring the relevant authorities for their failure to address the problem, they even staged sit-ins in the past, but the issue remains unresolved despite the fact the area people had also been raising hue and cry for yeas.

A community activist demanded that at least 30mgd water be supplied to Lyari town to cater to the minimum requirements of the densely populated areas.
