KARACHI, Sept 25: Nargis Latif of Gul Bahao, an NGO concerned with environmental issues, on Monday said that inorganic industrial waste could be effectively reused and several things like rooms, shelters, and even regular houses could be built from them.

She said that dozens of such houses built from recycling of industrial waste were sent to the earthquake-hit areas of Mansehra.

While delivering a lecture at the Karachi Grammar School, she said that interest in garbage or waste management would keep on increasing simply because today’s garbage was a by-product of industrialization, which was progressing by leaps and bounds.

“Several useful things could be built by utilising ignored industrial wastes,” she said adding there was no need of cement, plaster or any other material in this regard.

Nargis Latif said that the list of Gul Bahao’s innovations kept on increasing, the latest one being the “Fuel Pak”, an alternative form of fuel.

She said that her NGO had established banks that dealt in recycle-able waste. She claimed that the project’s of her NGO like Safai Kamai Bank could earn as much as any conventional bank because of instant use of the waste material, which was essential raw material for industry.

Lauding her observations, the students insisted her for a practical follow-up and suggested for launching a garbage collection system on the premises of the school.—PPI
