KARACHI: Teenaged boy gets life term

KARACHI, Sept 22: The additional district and sessions’ judge, South, Ghulam Rasool Sammu, sentenced on Friday a teenaged boy to suffer rigorous imprisonment for life in the murder case of a 12-year-old boy.

The judge also ordered convict Zeeshan alias Banti, 15, to pay Rs100,000 as compensation to the family of Waqar Ali, who was beaten to death on May 15, 2004, in Mehmoodabad.

In case of default on the payment, the convict would have to undergo an additional five-year term, the judge further ordered.

According to prosecution, victim Waqar Ali was on his way with his two friends when he was beaten up by Banti and Philips Samuel. He died on the spot.

Philips Samuel is being tried separately by additional district and sessions judge, South, Sher Bano Karim.

FIR LODGED: The Site police registered a murder on the orders of the district and sessions judge, West, Mohammed Jawaid Alam.

The judge ordered registration of murder case on the application of Liaquat Ali Rana.

The applicant submitted before the court that his elder brother, Mohammed Younus, was a worker at the Serhad Re-rolling Mills and he died around 9am on Aug 4 at the factory in mysterious circumstances.

He said he was informed around 12:57pm about the death of his brother due to electrocution.

He said his employers had removed the body from the hospital before he reached there.

He said he reported the matter to the Site police and asked them to lodge an FIR against the mill-owner Zafar and factory foreman Haji Aslam, but the police refused to lodge the case.
